Just before we decided to take our toddler out of her cot and get her used to sleeping 'out in the open', I was in the middle of planning my boy's room makeover.
Since we're unsure how long our two will be sharing a room, and since I know there's plenty of mamas out there planning a boys room makeover, I thought I'd share my advice and inspo here in case it helps you with your own planning.
Firstly, apart from the obvious use for sleeping, I think it's important to think about what other activities will be happening in the room. For instance, I know my boy doesn't like playing with his toys in his room (he prefers the living room) but the toys live in his room. I also know he enjoys reading in his room (for quiet time), so I want to plan for a reading nook. So we're looking at designated areas in parts of the room.
In terms of sleeping, I want my kids to be able to have sleepovers - both with their friends and each other. So I've been looking at bunkbeds and trundle beds.
I know my boy's likes (and dislikes) change quickly - although there are some common themes that he's been into for years. That's why I like to have him involved in the planning from the beginning. From things like colours, storage solutions, and accessories, I ask his input and try to stick to it as much as I can because, after all, he has to enjoy his space.
Safety plays a huge part in my planning (always) because he's still at an age where he's trying to discover creative ways to reach things. Book cases, dressers and other freestanding items need to be secured to the walls.
And finally I don't want to limit myself to the children's section when shopping for decor items. I want a mix of fun and practical items that will (hopefully) grow with the room as it changes over time.
Thos are some of my planning tips and here are some of my favourite boys' rooms found from around the web...

Love the inspiration Branka! I’m planning on making over Harveys room and I think I’m going to build the theme around your "whale tail’ print. I love it so much and Harvey is totally obsessed with boats and the see and whales etc. Fun!
