DIY Easter Treats For Grown-Ups + Free Printable Gift Tags!

With Easter just around the corner, I’m having trouble getting chocolate off my mind (as well as my hands, face and clothes for that matter)!

The weather is starting to finally cool down and I’m loving the idea of these hot chocolate spoons - because who says Easter has to be just about eggs for the kids?

There are so many ways that you can style these spoons to suit your taste, and so many variations you can take on flavour and decorations! They’re going to make the perfect Easter treat for guests who are popping over during the holiday break.

We can’t wait to stir one of these into a double shot, flat white on Easter morning while the little ones in my family hunt for their eggs!

For those of you who don’t feel particularly crafty, I’ve made the presentation side of things easy by creating this FREE downloadable Easter gift tag sheet, hand-written by yours truly! Simply print them onto some slightly thicker paper, cut them out, punch a hole in the designated spot, and you’re ready to roll.

Chocolate Spoon Ingredients

Here’s the basics of what you’ll need:

  • A packet of bamboo spoons (you can pick these up from most $2 shops or party stores - they look way cuter than plastic spoons and are friendlier on the environment too!)
  • A mixture of dark, milk and white chocolate melts
  • Your choice of extras - mini marshmallows, sprinkles, chopped nuts - the possibilities are endless!
  • Cellophane / ribbon / a mug / tissue paper etc, for presentation
  • A microwave safe bowl
  • Baking paper sheets and a tray for cooling
  • Your free download of our One Tiny Tribe Easter gift tags

Making the spoons:

  1. Melt your chocolate for 20 seconds at a time on a medium heat in the microwave until it’s fully melted.
  2. Dip your spoon into the chocolate and turn it over a few times to ensure that the whole end is covered with a generous amount of chocolate.
  3. Carefully place your spoon on the baking tray covered in greaseproof paper for cooling.
  4. Try making a mixture of dark, milk and white chocolate spoons for variety (I just did milk this time to begin with, and used my dark and white chocolate for decorating).
  5. If you’re going to add marshmallows, nuts, shredded coconut or anything else to your spoons, you’ll want to pop them on the front side of the spoon once they’ve been laying in the fridge for a few minutes and the chocolate has started to go a little bit tacky.
  6. Place the tray of decorated spoons on the tray in the fridge to harden.
  7. Shortly before giving them away, grab a few spoons and wrap them in cellophane and tie up with some cute pastel coloured ribbon and place back in the fridge. Or, head to your local op shop and grab a few cute coffee mugs like we did and present them in cup they can keep!

If you really want to go all out with your easter decorating, try using some pastel coloured or glittery washi tape on the spoon handles, leaving just enough gap before the chocolate so that there’s still room to stir. You can carry on the washi tape theme by adding some to the back side of your gift tags where you’ll sign your name.
